A growing world population and scarcity of raw materials is drawing increased attention to use of by-products as a viable, nutritious source of energy for animals. Challenges in preserving by-products, however, may cause significant volumes to end up as landfill waste or used for biogas production. Methods to effectively preserve food by-products are in demand to fill the rising need for raw materials and final feed with stable nutritional levels.
Preserving the nutritional value of food by-products is essential to maintaining this production stream of highly suitable ingredients for animal feed. However, preventing deterioration of food by-products can be challenging due to conditions favourable for microbes to proliferate.
